Who are Tailor Maid Home Care?

Founded in 2010 by sisters Jennifer and Shirley, Tailor Maid Home Care is a care company designed to suit your needs. Tailor Maid Home Care is a family run business which demands high quality care from all its staff. We aim to provide a flexible, cost-effective service for all our clients.

Our Home Care management team have over 40 years’ experience in nursing, community – social work and administration.

We are fully registered by Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (SCSWIS) and all our dedicated staff are fully disclosure checked and trained to National Care Standard 

We value our staff and aim to make sure they are trained to a high level to ensure they can deliver the quality of care that you expect.

Here at Tailor Maid Home Care, we value our staff, and we value our clients. That’s why all of our staff receive training as part of Tailor Maid.

All Staff are required to complete their SVQ2 in Health and Social Care (with many continuing on to complete the SVQ3 Qualification), Palliative Care, End of Life Support, as well as Moving and Handling and Best Practice in Dementia Training courses. Additionally, all staff are being trained in Care About Physical Activity (CAPA), which is a new initiative designed to promote physical health and wellbeing. The Office Team

Jennifer Woods is our Operations Director, set up the business in 2009 with her sister, Shirley Dickson. She is an Accountancy Graduate with many years’ experience in various accountancy and Auditing roles. Jennifer had a career break to look after her three children, and returned to work after having completed a Post-Graduate degree in Primary Education.

Along with her sister Shirley, they recognised a niche in the market to provide a tailored personalised approach to care having experienced services which were currently offered.
Jennifer is passionate about only recruiting caring staff whom she believes would pass her “mum’s test” – be good enough to look after her own mum. Hence recruiting reliable, caring ladies is a top priority at all times.

Shirley Dickson is our Care Director and co-founder. She trained as a registered nurse in Glasgow’s Western Infirmary. Her career spans 25 years. She nursed in numerous hospitals including the Brompton in London specialising in Cardiothoracic care. She was promoted to Sister in the Western Infirmary Cardiac intensive care unit and laterally nursing in the Royal Jubilee in Clydebank. Shirley is passionate about care and her lead role as Care Director ensures that high standards are maintained at all times. The success of the business as a provider of Home Care in the community is contributed to Shirley’s passion for only providing “excellent care” as our testimonies demonstrate.

Cathy McCulloch is our Operations Manager. Cathy has worked in the Care Sector for many years and during her career worked as PA/Office Manager to many companies in Glasgow. Cathy is very organised and applies commitment to work under pressure ensuring every care package is covered with the most appropriate staff. She has built up excellent relationships with all the Tailor Maid Clients since joining the company in October 2012, and is always more than happy to help with any queries you may have.

Anna Harvey is our Home Care Supervisor who is responsible for Personnel and Staff Training. An Arts and Social Sciences graduate and qualified teacher, Anna oversees all new staff undergo induction and shadow training prior to commencing working with clients. Anna ensures that all staff are expertly trained to ensure we only ever a deliver first class standard of care. Anna is our Dementia Specialist and facilitates all in house training.

Anna has now completed her SVQ4 Qualifications. Anna says … “Working in social care is very rewarding. Every day is different and you may have your challenges but supporting and caring for people is the best job for me. I have met such amazing people whether it be service users, families, colleagues and other health professionals. I am happy I work in this field and wouldn’t change it for anything else.”

Clare Conlon is one of our Rota Coordinators. Clare has worked with Tailor Maid Home Care since October 2011. A language graduate from Glasgow University, Clare developed her skills over the years in various office positions laterally working with Tailor Maid which has given her the necessary background skills to fulfil her role in the office. 

One of her greatest achievements working at Tailor Maid is being presented the title of  Scottish Care “Coordinator of the year”  in 2022. It was a tremendous testament to all her dedication to the role over the pandemic which was very challenging for her.

Cheryl Gerrie is one of our Rota Co-ordinators. She has worked at Tailor Maid Home Care since June 2012, initially as a Care Practitioner and then as  one of our Supervisors.Cheryl has many years of experience in the Care sector and is really enjoying her  role in the rota team. Cheryl has completed her SVQ4 in Health and social care .She  loves working in the care industry as everyday is different and being able to help individuals remain in their own home is rewarding.Cheryl carefully selects each Carer to match our  clients with the right skills, experience and personality.Cheryl has been appointed as our Eat Well Age Well (EWAW ) coordinator and part of her role is to monitor clients on the EWAW programme, logging their nutrition , providing support to the care team and liaising with outside agencies to improve health and wellbeing.

In her own time, Cheryl spends her time with her family and her 2 dogs and enjoys well deserved breaks in the sunshine.

Avril Blyth, one of our Supervisors, joined Tailor Maid Home Care in March 2016, and quickly established herself as an extremely reliable and trustworthy member of our team. Clients feel very comfortable with her, and she does her utmost to provide them with a tailor maid care experience to enable them to live in their own home while promoting their independence.

Avril’s previous experience was caring for adults with learning disability for over 13 years. She managed Service Users with a variety of complex needs such as autism, epilepsy, dementia, brain damage and MS. She then transferred her skills to working in a Care Home and enhanced her experience in dealing with outside Agencies such as social services and Health Personnel.

Since being promoted to Supervisor in August 2017, Avril has embraced her role in setting up our care packages and being that vital link with families as she understands first hand how all the packages in her group of clients are being catered for and can with the feedback from our carers improve the care to their changing needs.

Margaret Phillipsone of our Supervisors, joined the Tailor Maid team in July 2015. Margaret worked in the Police for many years and having taken early retirement to help out with her families business, she always felt a career in care was her vocation. Margaret very quickly established herself as a firm favourite with all clients, always going the extra mile. Having worked as a Carer for three years, we were delighted to promote Margaret to the role of Supervisor in August 2018. Well-respected by all of the team, Margaret splits her time between carrying out customer reviews and updating care packages and mentoring her team. Margaret always demonstrates best practice and is a fabulous role model for all our new recruits. She is currently undertaking her SVQ 3 qualification in Health and Social Care.

Maureen Carr, another of our Supervisors, first joined Tailor maid in October 2017, and was promoted to Supervisor in August 2019. Having worked in Finance for most of her career, when her family grew up and moved on to University she decided to take an Open University Course in Health and Social Care and achieved her SVQ3 Qualification. Edna, one of our clients, describes her “Maureen comes through the door with a smile on her face no matter the weather. She’s very capable, quickly and respectfully noting everything that is expected of her to do. We are lucky to have her.”

Thomas McCulloch, is one of our Care Supervisors. Thomas has a background in engineering and industrial sales and has  a postgraduate certificate in risk and safety management.Thomas made a career change in 2020, after taking time out to care for his father, he worked with adults with learning disabilities and elderly in the community. He joined Tailor Maid Home Care in 2021 as a Care Practitioner and quickly commenced his SVQ3, and progressed to being  appointed Supervisor in 2024.Whilst the Care Sector can be difficult and brings challenges, Thomas likes to have a laugh and banter with the clients and is extremely well liked and admired by the team. He plays in a band in his spare time and enjoys taking some of our gents to the driving range.
